Eagle Eyes & Camera mouse: the power of looks

Yet another succesful example of GPL software, this time by Boston College, is the Eagle Eyes/Camera mouse tandem. Both programs allow the user to use gaze as a mouse, in the first case via five electrodes -when people have severe mobility problems- and in the second via head motion -when people have limited motion capabilities-. The Camera Mouse works through a video camera or web camera connected to the computer and it is less restrictive than Eagle Eyes.

Both access technologies function as standard mouse replacements in Windows systems and work with standard commercial Windows applications software. The authors also offer a variety of applications including PC games, SMS writing or book readers.

These technologies have been designed keeping the youngest sector of population in mind and have been widely tested. As usual, this proves that GPL can be high quality as well.
