Control your wheelchair with a WiiMote

Laura Duran's master project focuses on allowing wheelchair users to control their vehicles with Nintendo WiiMote. Basically, al the user needs to do is turn the controller in the direction he/she wants to go and the system takes care of the rest, including obstacle avoidance. The user may change directions as often as he/she wants, yet be assisted continuously if needed.

The main goal of using WiiMote for wheelchair control is that it works on relative motion, so users can hold it in the position they find most comfortable for their condition. Also, it is expected to be used in holonomic wheelchairs, so we can benefit from steering motion via the rolling movement detection.

This work has been reported in spanish press in El Mundo and El Sur.
